THE ANIMAL LOTTERY

Journey to Santa Rosa de Amanadona

cinema-documentary in development

SYNOPSIS

When Dixon’s mother dies, he inherits her weekly “Animal Lottery”, a meeting point of the indigenous of Puerto Ayacucho in the Venezuelan amazon region. Her death triggers his urge to rediscover his ancestral indigenous roots. He wants to go back to his mother’s deserted village, Santa Rosa de Amanadona. Rumours say that sometimes - at night - voices of past life can still be heard there and Dixon wants to record them.

It is a journey not only into a vanished past, but also up the Orinoco River and deep into the Amazon Forest. Dixon assembles an eclectic group, his cousins, who are part of a stilts-walkers group called “canillas largas” (long legs) as well as the openly gay singer Adalberto, the Amazonian star, who wants to “tour” the mining villages on the way together with albino Mariachi singer Arturo - and “Auntie Isabel”, the oldest woman in town who has actually lived in the lost village as a child. Aracelys, the medium who communicates with spiritual entities, Chele, who heals through plants and Chiva, the terrible cook are on board as well.

ANIMAL LOTTERY is a darkly funny documentary of a bizarre group of characters and yet a deeply serious journey of hope, going back in space and time in the search of a lost world.
